Set up Mocha HRMS: the first-time checklist
The recommended order to set up a new company — from organisation details to your first pay run — and why each step comes where it does.

Why the order matters
Each step relies on data from the one before it. Following this order means dropdowns are never empty and your first pay run calculates correctly.
1. Organisation settings (Mocha platform)
- Organisation details — company name, logo, address country, currency, time zone and the First Month of Financial Year. Payroll needs your country (India or the United States), currency and financial year; attendance dates follow your time zone.
- Branches and locations — HRMS reads them from here. See Branches and locations.
- Users and roles — give HR, payroll and managers the right roles in User & Groups. See Roles and access.
2. Company structure
- Departments, then designations.
- Master Settings lists you need, such as Skills for recruitment.
3. Time and leave rules
In Payroll → Payroll Settings:
- Holiday Calendar — this year’s holidays.
- Work Schedules and Work Shifts — with a default for each branch.
- Leave Policies — your leave types and rules.
4. Payroll configuration
- Review Statutory Rule Sets.
- Build Salary Structure Templates.
- Create a Pay Group and generate its periods.
5. Employees
- Add employees one by one, or import them in bulk. Set each employee’s branch, reporting manager and bank details.
- Assign a salary structure to everyone you pay.
- Set opening leave balances in Manage Employee Leaves.
- Invite employees to My Workspace.
6. Your first pay run
Capture attendance for the period, decide pending leave, then work through the pre-payroll checklist and run your first pay run.
